Introduction to Thailand

Located in the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is bordered by Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia. In terms or area size, Thailand holds the seat as 50th largest country in the world. At such big land area, it has a population of 65 million people, with about 10 millions living in Bangkok, the capital city. Of the 65 million population, 75% are Thai, whereas the remaining are Chinese, Malay and other ethic tribes.

Thailand is a country much devoted to Buddhism, of which the teaching and practice of Buddhism can be seen almost every where in the country. Approximately 95% of the population are of Buddhist religion.

Thailand is a great vacation escapes for its beautiful beaches, islands, superb tropical weather and unique culture. Despite the colonization pressure from the neighboring countries in the 18th century, Thailand managed to remain neutral thus keeping its culture and heritage intact.

Transportation in Thailand

Transportation in Thailand are well established. There are conventional airlines and budget airlines servicing the major cities such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Chiang Rai and Hat Yai. Trains, such as Orient Express and long haul Buses are other options to travel between cities. It serves as a great alternative to air transportation by allowing tourists to watch the natural beauty and scenery in Thailand suburb.

For transportation in city itself, tuk tuk, a small open air motorized trishaw van that can take from 2 to 6 persons, depending on the size, is a great experience that one must not miss when vacationing in Bangkok and other cities. This unique mode of transportation can also be found in the neighboring country, Cambodia.

Taxi can be easily located in the city as well. Remember to confirm the fare prior boarding tuk tuk and taxi to avoid argument and confusion at the later stage.

Thai is the official language in Thailand and are widely spoken in Thailand. English are spoken in major cities, especially in tourist attraction destinations.

Currency in Thailand

Thai Baht is the official currency in Thailand. Money changer can be easily located in shopping mall and airports. Advise is to exchange money with license money changer or bank.

Best time to Travel to Thailand

Thailand is a tropical country with nice, warm temperature all year round, averaging at 85 degree Fahrenheit in central Thailand, except the far north, such as Mae Hong Sun where the temperature can drop to as low 36 degree Fahrenheit. Despite the tropical weather all year round, November to March is the best time to travel as it is the dry season. June to October is the rainy season, where the southwest Monsoon will bring rains to the country.
