Introduction to Norway

Norway is famous for its amazing geographical location, bordered by long deep fjords in the west, Finland in the north and sharing peninsular with Sweden in the east. The fjords in the west are long and narrow, surrounded by tall mountains on both sides. This natural element allows the sea to reach far inland and also created an economics focusing on oil and seafood exports.

The history of Norway dates back to 9000BC, where the earliest sign of human settlement was discovered. Since then it has been through the Viking age, middle age and finally united into one kingdom in 900AD. Religion of Christianity was officially adopted by Norwegian in 1030.  After the adoption of this official religion, many churches were built and population has grown rapidly. Starting 1100, monarchy started emerging and controlling churches. Finally, in 1814, Norway adopted a Norwegian Constitution, based on American Declaration of Independence.

Northern Norway is the best place to see northern lights. By theory, the geographical location of Norway allows auroral observation anywhere in the country. Nonetheless, the best spot for Northern Lights observation, official name Auroral Borealis, is in North Cape in Finmark.

Norway is a well developed country, and various modes of transportation are available and are well established. There are both international and domestic airports in major cities such as Oslo, Bergen, Sandefjord, Stavanger. Rapid transit service operates in Oslo city, as well as other modes of public transport such as railway trains, bus and ferries linking other towns and cities outside Oslo.

Best time to travel to Norway

It can be anytime of the year, depending on your preference for weather. However, the most crowded season is from May to September, as winter in Norway can be bitterly cold, sometime to -25°C in the northern part of the country. In Northern Norway, sunshine is on 24 hours during summer time, and no sun at mid winter.

Capital city of Norway, with its history dated back to 8th century.  Best known for its Akershus Fortress and the Royal Palace.  This city has survived from a big fires in 1624 and was rebuilt under the supervision of Denmark king.  Old Aker Church, which is believed to be the oldest building in Oslo, is also one of the top tourist spots in Oslo.
