Introduction to Taman Negara Rain Forest

Taman Negara is the world oldest rain forest that can be dated back to 130 million years. It covers an area of 4,343 square kilometers. It is home to tigers, elephants, rhinoceros, 14,000 species of plants and 300 species of birds. Trees muffles external noises, obscure the horizon and change the weather to fresher, cooler feel.

Transportation to Taman Negara Rainforest

The best entrance to Taman Negara is via Kuala Tembeling, of which you can hire a boat down the river to the park gate at Kuala Tahan. This 3 hour boat journey is a popular route to enter Rainforest. Skirting at the border of the park, the journey down the river allows visitors taking in breathtaking views of the jungle while listening  birds chirping and sounds of the forest.

Alternatively, if you plan to travel by road, the entrance point would be at Jerantut. It takes about one hour from Jerantut to reach Rain Forest National Park headquarter, Kuala Tahan. Jerantut is 260 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.

The boat river journey or road trip will take you to Kuala Tahan, which is National Park head quarter. Activities in Taman Negara Rain Forest

A short walk from Kuala Tahan is the longest canopy walkway in the world. It leads 430 meters from giant tree to giant tree, sometimes over 50 meters in the air. It serves as biggest tourist attractions in the Taman Negara. This canopy walk will lead you to Teresek Hill which allows one to admire the stunning view of Gunung Tahan.

Gunung Tahan, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia stands tall at 2,187 meter and is 55 kilometers from Kuala Tahan. To hike up to Gunung Tahan, it requires 8 days trekking with guidance from an experienced mountain guide. For a less challenging mountain trekking experience, try Teresek Hill or Kuala Keniam Trail.

There is a Orang Asli, the Aboriginal of Malaysian still living in the forest.  Visit them to witness the nomadic life style they are leading.

White Water rafting is another activity offered. Water rafting here is suitable for all age groups and amateurs, as the water current is not rapid enough most of the time for hardcore adventure seekers.

Bird watching, cave exploration, rubber tubing, fishing, night safari walk are few of the popular activities available.
